Replacement Bungs for Oak Aging Barrels
Replace a lost, worn, or damaged bung and maintain a secure seal on your oak aging barrel. Choose the bung size that matches your barrel:
- 1L, 2L & 3L barrels – Fits a 3/8-inch bung hole
- 5L, 10L & 20L barrels – Fits a 3/4-inch bung hole

A properly fitting bung is an important part of keeping your oak barrel sealed during the aging process. The bung closes the opening in the barrel—known as the bung hole—helping control air exposure while your spirit ages.
Oak barrels naturally allow a small amount of interaction between the spirit, wood, and surrounding air. However, the bung should fit securely so the barrel isn’t exposed to unnecessary airflow that could affect the aging process.
Choose the Right Bung Size
Be sure to select the replacement bung that corresponds with your barrel size:
- 1-liter, 2-liter & 3-liter barrels: fits a 3/8-inch bung hole
- 5-liter, 10-liter & 20-liter barrels: fits a 3/4-inch bung hole
How to Insert Your Replacement Bung
When installing the bung, place it into the bung hole at approximately a 45-degree angle. Gently twist and press the bung against the side of the opening as you insert it.
This helps the bung seat securely while reducing the chance of the gasket being pushed upward or slipping off.
Once installed, make sure the bung sits snugly in the opening before storing or aging your spirit.
